Wide Know How...2008!
Productivity is a tough concept sometimes...but know-how fixes things,
and productivity and ingenuity will always mean a surplus and an abundance.

The following is for the ones who have idle time, idle
machines or boredom.

Wide thinking-Rated...

Here goes.  Many are not "wide thinking" so it may be the time America starts whining.

In seven years I have probably only built 25-30 Mascuts.  Everybody who eventually
discovered the Mascut jig  between 2001-2008 got a heck of a device.  Those who came upon the story about it,  usually kept quiet, probably quite proud of their distinction and ability to pick a winner.  Most people have ordered the Minnie Cut, my other jig for making box joints,  because it is less expensive than the Mascut.   In the process, I have spent more time adding to this website, writing manuals and technical materials, and various other projects than anything else.

This website is about 100 pages in volume, but this story has a little more focused persuasion about the Mascut, and anyone struggling with the fact that we have idle machines everywhere with little knowledge
about there larger scope of uses.  Also, read below about how local festivals and markets work.

Here goes. It is time America starts whin_ng.

That's right start whin_ng, loathing, real grieving and reckoning about not knowing more about machines. That's great. Breath deep, let out all the poor thoughts, all of the stored anger and grief. Yell down the basement steps and say: I am tired of thinking technically poor!  I don't want to see the next generation thinking the same way.   Maybe walk around the house 25 or 30 times, go out in a wide open field and yell like Rocky and say....

"I have all these machines, half my spare time tied up in tools, plans, and beautiful, perfect tools, yet I never seriously read a book about jigs in my life!
Others may have built a production operation, starting with a few simple machines and developed an operation, and randomly designed and produced their ideas.

Bedazzled?  Anger management helps, but productivity could cure it..

Now, don't spread any of that grief, because it doesn't help one bit.  Just pretend to be better now,  that's the best thing.  It might help you out in the long run. Just do what most people do, and imagine that you can do whatever you want as long as you want, be as angry as you want and nobody will ever stop you. Yell at people, call the radio and tell everyone it was their fault for not telling you about the Mascut, or about the book IMM.   Tell everyone that you could have been more of an expert just by ordering a simple book called "Jigs and Gauges for Beginners"... Imagine yelling at the gas station attendant....Don't really do it, don't whine, but just imagine it.

Remember, it is very probable that nobody we know is responsible for the fact that their machines are idle. It is very probable that nobody we know is responsible that so many are unable to be knocking off products smoother than anyone can imagine. It is very probable that nobody alive is responsible, everyone is just taking orders, just doing their task at hand, and rarely discovering more techniques for their table saw.

Not even the retirees are responsible because many of them had to take off their thinking caps a long ago. Say it again, I have machines, and I am tired of thinking poorly, thinking technically poor, and I don't want to see the next generation thinking the same way.   I am going to get mad and see that things change.  I won't let another generation buy woodworking tools to be permanently idle, or collect dust. I'll tell people, I'll ask George for a free copy of Northirst, and read it, and give it to others, instead of discussing sports.  I will give some info to the High School, the college, and even every mechanically minded person who bought slot machines in the past 5 years.

Just say, I am tired of boring stuff, and won't let another kid use a woodworking shop to raise ferrets. I am tired of listening to the news and radio with random, irrational critics, ranting, finger pointing, saber rattling, joking or self pity.  Say this:  "I will treat myself, or otherwise present someone with something they never imagined existed."   That way, in five or ten years, they might be too busy, too fulfilled, too well occupied and possibly too financially secure to protest or whine because they took a bunch of idle machines and became a developer, an implementer, and an idea founder.  That might even be a new word:  An "Idea Founder."
And another thing....don't take my advice about complaining about the economy or being poor or the gas prices...Don't really do that! It's contagious.

Remember, Don't really do that! It's contagious, it often grows worse, and it can be handled with enough determination before the anger reaches a counterpoint, which is also not good.  Besides, yelling will disturb the peace, and the bail bondsman may be woodworking.  There are 100's of great movies, 100's of famous  icons of comedy, and tons of books, but few books as good or as relevant or as available as easily as the ones included  with the MASCUT.

Bigger thinking

Now, Read below how the "Country market" ideas can eventually transform into local manufacturing with national products and ideas, and how many of them are too busy to complain, but are in a bustle of activity.

Start with the MASCUT 1.0

A present development in a productive process depends decisively upon past development. A future development depends upon on some of the past, some of the present, and eventually results in a more advanced development. Essentially, this is what builds up confidence and a complete and natural familiarity leading towards more efficiency and more production. It can all begin with woodworking, with one basic awareness: Using jigs and fixtures.

Country Markets can even turn into theme-topia, they can spark
every advanced product or theme, even into a national scale.

It's called mustard seed mentality...
Ambition is like a mustard seed.  Out of the smallest seed, the tiniest little micro-seed gets planted and whole industries become offshoots of such initial, wide scope of understanding.

Affairs, Markets and Festivals...

Maybe one of the few alternative to Walameratopia....

To some, Wal-ameratizing their country town has it's plus's and minus's.
The minus's are that they don't put a lot of initial joy into the existing merchants, and they really keep most people dependent on current day economies without much need to begin,  improve, or expand, or advance our domestic manufacturing supply lines and systems.   In fact, some go out of business and don't have the resources to diversify and challenge some of the micro-automated practices of the big box warehouses.  In fact, as you probably know, they displace a majority of certain types of local businesses, and replace them with franchises run from a central command of economic experts, many from another state.  This often concerns the local, established business people when many of the future decisions in their new, up and coming economy are made by the highly motivated, highly determined production specialists the local people don't really know.

About the town markets...

The town markets mostly passed out of existence because around the middle of the 20th
Century (mid 1900's) and a whole new "economy of scale" was introduced which had worldwide possibilities for the brilliant and determined production specialists across America.  That was a good thing.  It helped to develop mass markets of enormous surplus and profits which benefited the whole system.  We didn't have to worry about what some of the third world countries had to tolerate, and with all of the profits, we overcame extended poverty and built an entire middle class.  Now, as many know, because of numerous factors, town markets are again returning to protect towns that are too small for a Walmart,  yet not willing to let the retailer move in and begin an entirely different economy based upon an "economy of scale" which is now large portion of imported, merchandise.  How do some cities begin to battle the corporate invasion?

Knowing that the community can use a Muti-funtional market, some will build "Festival Marts" like they did for hundreds of years in Europe.  Around some of these U.S.  festival markets they even build hotels and car lots, book stores, even  recreation theme parks. They sell furniture and they are an outlet for innovators and skilled craftsman who can add a variety of products, but only if they know how to make things in a little higher volume, then spreading even into a broader, more national scope.

Here's another point.  Everyone see the tips of the trees.  What does that mean?  It means that everyone lately  sees the economy struggling and becomes discouraged.  They naturally tend to believe that the solution is government intervention, or technological solutions,  advanced technology, robotics and so forth, but that means that they are mostly looking at the tips of the trees.  Some of those advanced roboticists  who were up in the trees and up in the planning rooms have already left the forest.  Remember the term "Elvis, has left the building?  Well, basic mechanics have left the building.  The basic channel in which we are delivered the means are now focused  on the other end, whatever that means.  OK, now the channels that provide us these basic mechanical means has the same old toll road, and the tolls are still levied on a scale even for learning basic stuff,  for what everyone thinks is meaningless intelligence.  Some very high IQ people will probably understand that children use to be industrialized right from the get go.  They were put into hands on training, in printing classes, machine shops, drawing courses, shop class and so forth.  Now, much of that has been overlooked for "awareness individualism, journalism, greek mythology,  computers, even personal hygiene.  Basic mechanics, robotics, and automation were almost completely overlooked.

That is because all of the old school has graduated beyond the room full of basic machines and jigs, and basic measurement techniques.   They have been funded with high technology everywhere, and they run right past basic.  These basic techniques for mass production will never be obsolete, because they are the "Automation 101, the robotics 101.  They are the beginning of the language, the baby formula that everyone drinks, but too distracted, or else nobody actually notices their value.  But that doesn't necessarily mean that we are investing in  more advanced intelligence.  It is available everywhere, only it is not as transparent or it is not delivered in any connective urgency.  For example, I went to trade school for four years.  Nobody in those four years explained to me how infinitely vital it was to be able to use jigs and fixtures as the foundation of assembling all of the millions of parts made everywhere.  Almost every part, whether steel, plastic, wood, whatever, needs to go into an assembly operation.  Take wooden parts for example.  Pretend you have to make a chair.  Each part requires jigs to set up and insure that they are all made uniform, according to a specification.  Then each part goes to an assembly process, where jigs control the exact locations for placing the original wooden parts.  So there, you know what nobody told me for 4 years, maybe longer.  I read about these processes, and read about jigs and fixtures, but never made much of a connection.   Now, people don't respect these basic techniques or entry level principles that don't seem to matter.   I have been dwelling on this "Tips of the trees"  for years, too busy, or too distracted to describe this concept; that things have to be complicated in order to be necessary.  Robotics, like the solar and the windmills can wait....(Just fooling.)  Some of our kids first need to learn how to drink the formula, or how to crawl before they can run.

Woodworkers might want to expand their abilities then to mechanize their rooms full of idle
machines....that's the idea behind the Mascut...Mass-Cut.
