The Idea Hub...Ideas, How to Techniques, and Table Saw Jigs.
Valuable tips for tools, and the shop.

What every engineer knows about tools, and every other engineer soon learns....

Recently industry leaders have been pointing out the need for more skills.

Plenty of shops are filled with the basic
woodworking tools, but tools don't guide or explain to their owners about their place in industry
or about productivity.  Not trying to be clever, but tools or machines don't speak, or deal with
what their mission is or has been for centuries.  That goal is a smooth, effective, almost rhythmic,
waste saving operation.  Yet most people focus only on getting the right tools, not the right method.

"Cut it, turn it, maybe make another cut in the same operation, and then drop it in the bucket."

What's this website and the extraordinary jigs all about?

Does this site explain how to record an international hit CD? Nope.
Does it teach you how to be an acclaimed actor? Nope. Does it show woodworkers how to be a
success at selling balsa wood carvings, or doing a 2,500 piece puzzle? Nope, not at all.

__________

With a Mascut, a saw becomes more like "making things on the fly"  You make
a cut, turn it, maybe make another cut, and then drop it in the bucket or bin.  That is, you can use it for
many different parts or table saw projects by just changing the gauges instead of having to build a new jig
for each operation. You'll get hooked filling the  bins with precision cut parts you make on your saw.  Then
you get caught up in the moment, time flies, and everything is synchronized and rhyming, and at
times you almost think the operation is invincible.

Then, just get out the clamps and the glue.  Some may want to read a litany of very
prestigious engineering books for years (they do have them) and still not discover half of
the clear, in your face concepts and principles all bundled up into the Mascut device.  For those
wanting a very good gloss over of what ordinary woodworking jigs do, download "Jigs and
Gauges for beginners"  It is also included with the Mascut...even the Minnie Cut box joint jig.

With a Mascut, it becomes more like
making things on the fly. Not on the wall.
NEWS from the precision woodworking hideout!

This isn't meant to sound clever...

Having a precise operation in woodworking becomes really interesting
when many discover that much of the pleasure is in a production mode.  Again,
not to sound clever, but once your system, or once your operation starts to
produce things, you like the rhythm, the timing and everything working.  At times, and
with things all running in sync, a machine operator is like a kid sledding, where no
matter what is going on all around, the machine is working right, and some don't
want to stop.  Sometimes you even wish that you could play on.  That's a good day,
the operation works smooth and things get made.

A good operation,
especially a safe one, is almost like a playground for some.  Most people who buy
tools don't consider that machines are a means to a certain goal.  For many that goal is to
make work more agreeable, especially more predictable using those well built, long
sought after machines and tools.  This is achieved by integrating predictable jigs
and methods with those tools to make more, do it smoothly, and eventually to provide
more of everything else.

Many self reliant production shops started out with some tools and ideas, but the vast majority used precision machines and instruments.  What some don't realize though is that an average table saw with two precision slots, is a precision machine.  Furniture makers for example became familiar with precision instruments,  and those who did went on to building the things the world needs, and then, many afforded and designed better quality into things.  Then they slowly expanded, and hopefully were able to become more efficient.  Our Mascut is an experience in what most  machines, and now most table saws are capable of.....quantity. It is a mathematical principle...Go through all the correct steps, and eventually reach a certain goal.  Obviously for centuries, we made things by hand, and always hoped for precision and ensured results, but unfortunately many were challenged economically by math logic.  They
didn't use jigs.

Could it be the math?  Jigs solve most of the math.

Just Skip it?

Unless all were thinking that tools were only for a pastime.

Make volume, not just noise.... Mascut

"Cut it, turn it in the same operation, drop it in the bucket."

With a Mascut, like most precision operations, it becomes more
like "
making things on the fly."  You cut your material, turn it, maybe make
another cut, and then
drop it in the bucket or bin!

Some get hooked and say "Why didn't I get one sooner!"  It prevents  guessing, and it sometimes solves merely buying more shiny, chrome or platinum tools.  The key is;  with jigs you upgrade to precision work, engaging your new skills with a precision method and  instruments to achieve what is often overlooked....proven, ensured accuracy.  That's what is behind the concept "Making things on the fly."   That is, you can use such a universal device for many different parts, or many table saw projects while just changing the Mascut gauges instead of having to build a new jig for each operation. You'll go along smoothly, filling the  bins with precision cut parts that you accurately cut on your saw.  Then you are assured when it is time for the clamps and the glue that all the parts will fit, and you, our anybody can do the assembly, and before you know it,
their are stacks of finished projects.  It's got to do with just a little extra effort at learning the most basic, but effective techniques.

Make stacks of gift boxes, or shelves filled with finished projects.  Even make solid wood tool, or jewelry chests, or a wall of sorting bins to organize.  The Mascut begins with the basics, but surely, most will see and soon  know enough about jigs that no operation will seem difficult.

Again, having a precise operation in woodworking becomes really interesting
when many discover that most of the pleasure is in the
production mode.  It's not always "what is the best tool, or what is the cheapest tool, or where do I get that power tool."  Many know that precise volume is a much more interesting goal for those who really know machines and their full, accurate potential.   It prevents  guessing because you learn to start with a $20 dollar digital caliper.  Using  precision tools is like an upgrade, it will ensure accuracy, even when occasionally making furniture, even chairs for example in any real volume.

Great jig from Rockler 24/7

A good mechanical operation, and the goal is to be a smooth, and safe one, becomes
almost a pleasure for some to be involved in.  Jigs, and a little extra precision ensures
better results, better volume.   Many tool owners will long for the day that the shop is filled
with all of the essential woodworking tools.

Recently industry leaders have been pointing out the lack of skills, the decrease
in engineering pursuits, in mechanical arts.  Everyone seems to focus only on acquiring
the machine or the tool to complete their collection.  Again, that essential shop tool is rarely
going to come with a production method, or a system, or
technique that ensures productivity.

Again, make stacks of gift boxes, or shelves filled with finished projects.  Even make solid wood jewelry or storage chests, or a wall of sorting bins to organize.  The Mascut begins with the basics, but surely, most will see and know enough about jigs that no operation will seem difficult.  "Cut it, turn it in the same operation, drop it in the bucket."  See our comments about the jigs!
