Box Joints, or finger joints, are a durable and long lasting method
of jointing wood.  They were used for years by industry for reliability
and were gradually taken over by plastic and cardboard boxes.   A reason
for mastering them is that they can apply to woods that are normally
difficult to glue.  Many exotic woods belong in this category as they
contain oils that can cause joint failure.  Cheese boxes, guns, and shipping crates
were made with these joints for over a century. Companies use to have saws
dedicated with special blades, but they can also be made on a table saw
with a few very important procedures.

______________

Some people make box joints with ease, and others always get stuck, or
hung up on certain issues.  Making box joints with ease is not an event, it is a
process in which certain steps can't be neglected.  I have read, and followed
many techniques which failed to emphasize certain vital steps in the process.
After delivering my first 100 or so box joint jigs, I have established and
recorded a proven technique.  This easy to follow book includes these vital steps,
and describes any additional tools, steps , vital accessories and details needed
to make them over and over again when needed.

With most plans, you are only explained the process and sequential
steps and tools needed.  This book describes the key accessories and
devices which help you master them.  To get box joints to be even, it helps to
follow the included "stock calculator."  Plus, now you get a bonus section about the
historical milestones, events, and the men and machines who made industry real.
"Effective and thorough communication make a big difference and
waste is often "action without the right information."

Why I created this manual.

After building
close to 100 box joint jigs for customers,  I discovered that most of the
technique has not been available to fully accomplish the task.  Others
left out simple, important tools,  details, and processes which took me years
to acquire.  They are easy to make for some.  But if you do
not read the "rest of the story",  there are often too many obstacles
to perfection.

NOTICE:  about kick-back on a table saw.

Observe all safety rules when using a table saw.  Always use an overhead blade guard or a fixed blade guard on a crosscut fixture.  Kickback can occur with a crosscut fence or rip fence.  With a crosscut fence,  it usually happens when your work piece is not held tightly, or it is tilted on your return cut.  On your rip fence it occurs when your work piece binds between the blade and table saw fence.  (Usually when an operator stops mid-cut and decides to back-up)   Kickback is a violent launch of your work-piece and can be  very dangerous.
